Research On The University Students’Self-Regulated Learning

At the background of globalization and informationization, the speed of updating knowledge becomes sooner and sooner. Nowadays, it is important for university students to learn how to study and then enhance their own quality and ability. It is the mission that this era gives us and all the university students should seriously consider about it. As a learning process and learning ability, the self-regulated learning has been attracting educators’and psychologists’attention, and gradually becomes an hot issue in the area of higher education. The characteristics of physical and psychological development as well as the particularities of university course and teaching provide the students necessary internal and external conditions to self-regulated learning.The literature review shows that the researches on independent learning mainly focus on the primary and middle school stage, at the same time they paied much effort on theoretic study but less on empirical study and analysis of university students’ self-regulated learning. That is why it is necessary and urgent to initiate corresponding studies. Therefore it is necessary and urgent to study the university students’self-regulated learning.The understanding of the status of universality students’ self-regulated learning is mainly based on the measurement and assessment of their self-regulated learning ability. Self-regulated Learning Scale for College Students which was made by Professor Zhu Zude and Professor Zhang Wei from South China Normal Universality was used to interview certain students from Zhejiang Normal University, and the follows are the conclusions:First, students in Zhejiang Normal Universality generally have a higher academic level. Their self-regulation displayed in Self-regulated Learning Motivation Scale and Self-regulated Learning Strategy is strong, which has high score in terms of self-efficacy, internal goal, sense of study control, external goal, sense of study significance, methodology, appeal, summarization. The results showed that the students in Zhejiang Normal Universality is good in self-regulated learning with clear goal, reasonable leaning schedule, various methodologies and learning summarization.Second, obvious differences of self-regulated learning existed among different grades: the freshmen had higher self-regulation than that of sophomore and junior students; the junior students had higher self-regulation than that of sophomore, but lower than that of senior students and freshmen; the senior students had the strongest self-regulation among all grades.Third, in terms of discipline, there were remarked differences among students of liberal arts and students of science and engineering; differences with different degrees were shown among students of all disciplines, among which, more significant differences were found in the students of science and engineering among grades.Fourth, in terms of gender, female students had higher score than that of male students, and they have significant differences. The result showed that the self-regulated learning of female students is higher than that of male students.Enhancement of university students’self-regulated learning can starts with the following two aspects:First of all, for students, the good self-regulated learning habit should be cultivated by correct learning motivation, choice of reasonable learning content and mastery of learning strategy.Second, for universities, guarantee should be ensured for students in terms of courses and teaching, management and assessment, as well as culture and environment.
