| Currently, researches of cross-board adaptation in China are mainly based on European and American students, while there are rare researches on ASEAN students. With the establishment of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, Educational cooperation between China and ASEAN becomes a new hot spot. It’s essential for us to focus on studying of ASEAN foreign students’cross-border adaptation.This study use Literature method, Qualitative research method and Questionnaire to doing research. This study takes the sample from331ASEAN students from Guangxi University, Guangxi University for Nationalities, Teachers Education University of Guangxi. Also, this study takes a long-term interview with10ASEAN foreign students who are from Guangxi University. The study uses SPSS18.0Statistical software separately from the perspective of overall adaptation, communication adaptation, and learning adaptation, and takes the quantitative research and interviews analysis on ASEAN students’ cross-border adaptation.Related statistics and analysis of the interviews shows:Firstly, the hardest and the easiest part for ASEAN students’adaptation are both from everyday life, while in culture difference and psychology adaptation side, the ASEAN students’ difficulty is not so obvious as European and American students. The depth and width of ASEAN students’ joining in Chinese social and cultural activity is lacking, which directly leads to the problem that they can’t get enough social support. Poor Chinese language level is the root cause for their learning adaptation stress. Secondly, cross-border adaptation level is not only influenced by objective factors, e.g., language level, personality traits, social support, time spending in china; but also influenced by individual’s goal and expectation. Finally, the cross-border adaptation level are mainly the same between different ASEAN countries, the tiny differences among countries are caused by specific circumstances.From questionnaires and interviews, we figure out related theoretical foundation:Firstly, because of such factors as contiguous geography, congenetic culture, similar habitude, etc; the situation of ASEAN students cross-bordering are different from American students’; the theory of cultural identity should be included as one part of the cross-border adaptation theory. Secondly, we must be aware of the fact that:Cultural difference and handicaps are in existence in ASEAN students’cross-border adaptation. So the cross-border adaptation theory’s learning process mode, stress response mode, adjustment theory also could be applied in researching ASEAN students’cross-border adaptation. But psychological and emotional factors like depression, confusion, anxiety and some physiological disease which are described in "Culture shock" didn’t appears so clear.According to problem found and the situation of international education in China, the author presented her suggestions for improving ASEAN foreign students’cross-border adaptation:Firstly, try to understand the habits, psychology of ASEAN students’cross-border adaptation through the perspective of cultural identity theory. Furthermore, we can explore their cross-border adaptation and inappropriate contents. Secondly, as for the defferent regional culture background and the specific circumstances of different countries We should use the philosophy of humanism in management, respect the cross-border needs from ASEAN students, establish systematic auxiliary project for foreign students. |
