The study of Exercise Prescription orignated from the concepts raised by the American physiologist Kaposi in the fifties. Since then many experts and scholars have defined and researched on it from different angles. Studies of Exercise Prescription are currently focused on college students, university teachers and the elderly, and the mostly sedentary office workers have been given relatively less attetion.[Research purposes] To find out the effects and differences among sedentary people who are prescribed with aerobic exercises and strength training exercises, while exploring the reasonable way to fitness for sedentary groups.[Research methods] In this study, fourty28to45-year-old sedentray and considerably obese office workers were prescribed with strength training and aerobic-based exercises respectively. Body composition analysis measured with inbody230was done before, during and after the test. Test data were collected for statistical analysis with spss17.0in order to observe effects on body compositions, so that a system of scientific exercise methods would be built on.[Results](1) For sedentary people with high fat content, Strength training prescriptions can be effective for less body fat decrease among men in the first six weeks and the second six weeks. There has been a significant decrease through out the twelve weeks(P <0.05); meanwhile their body fat percentage declined significantly in the first six weeks.(P <0.05). In the female population, there have been increases of lean body mass and basic metabolic rates, while decreases of body fat percentage and body fat(P<0.05).(2) For sedentary people with high fat content, the effects of aerobic exercise prescription would be benign. But there have not been significant main indicators changes through out the twelve weeks, first six weeks and the second six weeks. It would because that aerobic exercise may have more effects on the cardiovascular system, and less effects on the the main body indicators (p>0.05). For this result, more researched and analysis should be made with a prolonged test time. [Conclusion] For the sedentary office workers, prescription-based strength training and aerobic exercise prescriptions both have positive effects on lean body mass, basic metabolic rate, body fat percentage, and body fat content. While prescription-based strength training proved to be a relatively more effective form of exercise. It is safe to recommend that strength training and stretching exercises should be involved in an aerobic exercise, so that better training results would be achieved.
