The21st century features in its fierce competition for talents, and there is no doubt thattalents of first class do come from high-quality education. Today, every country in the worldattaches great importance to education, and even places it in a strategic position of its socialdevelopment with a series of educational reform being carried out here and there. As themajor participants of education, teachers are now facing the main issue of their professionaldevelopment, which has already become an essential factor to secure the success ofeducational reform.In China, the problem of teacher’ professional development ins now drawing more andmore concern from both education and many other departments. Better systems for teacher’professional development have been set up accordingly by many education departments andschools. Furthermore, we have witnessed more theoretical works on teachers’professionalization and more research achievements coming out. Additionally, most teachershave established their vocational expectations and ideals as their faiths and pursuits’. As awhole, all of these improvements do provide a welcome atmosphere and good environmentfor teachers’ professional development. However, we cannot deny the fact that the problem ofteachers’ professional development is still the bottle-neck restricting the development ofeducation. The conflict arises increasingly apparently between teachers’ comprehensiveability and the need of educational development. In view of this, teachers’ professionalizationstill has a long way to go.Due to the current educational systems, are teachers in dine to be ignored compared withteachers of other subjects of basic school education. However, we must be aware that arteducation is an education not only to one’s soul, but to his spirits, which aims to purify andbeautiful one’s soul as well as increase his ability to experience beauty and love. Therefore, inorder to reinforce quality education truly and thoroughly, we must highlight the importance ofart education and its position. So it is time for art teachers to update their educational ideas anmake more creation and innovation in their teaching methods in effort to accelerate theirprofessional development, which has turned out an essential part of the current educationalreform.The thesis consists of five parts. Chapter one, the Introduction, introduces the background and significance of the study. On the basis of the related concepts of teachers’professional development and the current situation of studies on this subject both at home andabroad, the author proposes her own ideas and approaches to this study. Chapter2inspectedthe current situation lf art teachers’ professional development in Weifang senior high schools,referring to the questionnaires to some art teachers and students along with interviews to someschool leaders of this area. Chapter3is the analysis and result of this study. Based on theinvestigation, the author makes a thorough analysis of the advantages, existing problems andcauses concerning art teachers’ professional development in Weifang senior high schools.Chapter4proposes some effective suggestions and solutions to promoting are teachers’professional development, including updating art teachers’ ideas to raise their awareness,improving relevant systems to strengthen school management and advocating art teachers’more self-reflection on themselves. Chapter5is the conclusion. In this part, the authorsummarizes the findings and conclusions of the study, proposes some problems together withtheir countermeasures and also points out the direction of the future work.
