Alumni are one important part of universities as a social institution. Alumni association is a special organization for developing close relationship between universities and their alumni. As one part of alumni association, local alumni association of universities has been playing much more important roles in contacting and maintaining good relationship within the alumni in same region, especially in aspect of resources accumulation and private friendship.In this case study about A University Alumni Association in Shang Hai, author focuses on its organization, functions and working mechanism, and explores how some important factors influence the development of local alumni association. Based on some problems finding in the process of research, author also puts up some suggestions for the development of local Alumni Association. Interviews were sampled from the core organizers and volunteers of A university Alumni Association in Shang Hai.It is composed of five parts. The first part is to explain why I was interested in this topic, including design of research process and method. The second part is to give a brief history of A University Alumni Association in Shang Hai. The third part is to analysis the organizational mechanism, including its organizational structures and the strength dominating its formulation and function. The fourth part is to analyses the working mechanism of A University Alumni Association in Shang Hai. The last part is to try to generalize the developmental dilemmas which A University Alumni Association in Shang Hai has to face up, and also try to put forward some suggestions for its further development.
