Textbook is an important carrier and a major component of the curriculum. It is an important resource for teaching and learning. The quality of textbook affects the whole process of curium implementation. The textbook reform has become an important content of China’s basic education reform. Learning from the development of other countries’outstanding textbook can provide a useful reference for textbook reform in China.Britain has a national curriculum system. It also has a national curriculum assessment and monitoring system. The A-level courses which is equivalent to our high school curriculum is one of the world’s most mature high school education curriculum system, so it has been widely recognized around the world. Our study selects CIE A-level textbook, written by the British Cambridge International Examinations and first publicated in2011as the object. The empirical research conducted in three aspects:1. A static text analysis, from the perspective of chemistry to analyze the characteristics of the textbook development.2. Learn from a foreign textbook evaluation form and combine CIE A-level textbook, we design a new form. The teachers’textbook evaluation form involves six aspects:layout design, the main content, writing style, columns, charts and supporting information.3. We analyze the students’learning patterns, the textbook evaluation from students, the consistency with the syllabus, textbook and teaching and the challenges and harvest after learning chemistry course through the questionnaire. After these analysis, we can provide a reference for teaching and promote the continuous improvement of teaching materials.By the analysis of quantitative and qualitative analysis, we can get the following conclusions using the methods of static text analysis and dynamic analysis by teachers and students.Chemistry theory is the core of the textbook which plays a guiding role to inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and applied chemistry; this textbook is an excellent reading for students, which contains a large number of specific and detailed examples and provides a variety of images that can help reduce the difficulty greatly.Generally speaking, the teachers give a high evaluation to the textbook, however they think that there are deficiencies in "development activities" and "supporting resources".Students like images and writing style of the textbook best, while too much content and English language are the main reasons that students do not like the textbook. The consistency with the syllabus, textbook and teaching is confirmed by most students. Students still have not developed a good habit of reading textbook. The students did not take full advantage of the textbook.
