Revolution of education goes with the development of society, and Beijing carried out a new round of Senior High School curriculum reformation in2007. New People’s Education Press (PEP) chemistry curriculum plays an essential role on improving scientific literacy of students and promoting students’ development in all sides. Taiwan and Beijing share the similar cultural background, using the same language. As the result of the different cultural influences on both sides, the course objectives will be different. Taiwan has achieved very good results both in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) by Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), which are able to show the scientific literacy of students comprehensively. As a crucial part of science, labwork occupies a significant position in chemistry curriculum as well. This study analyzing labwork of chemistry textbooks in upper secondary school in Beijing and Taiwan bases on A’map’of’labwork’in Labwork in Science Education (1998) working paperl which conducted by EU commission Targeted Socio-Economic Research Programme, emphasizing on comparing and analyzing the learning objective and design features of tasks. The textbooks in Taiwan have a standard but many versions, in this study, Hanlin version is chosen to compare with PEP using in Beijing. This study introduces and analyzes the content of textbooks, the content of each experiment, layout features, learning objectives, and the features of task of both sides. Also, it compares3experiments which has similar content but different learning objectives and task features. Finally, it has an interview with the upper secondary school chemistry teachers in Beijing and Taiwan, attempting to know their view to the context of labwork and labwork teaching. We can get something through the comparing, learning mutually, and making a constantly improvement.Though the research, it is obvious that students in Beijing can get more on Science Inquiring by chemistry labwork and students in Taiwan get more on Science Knowledge by chemistry labwork. Students will get more interests in learning chemistry on both sides.
