Because of the unfavorable grades and low quality of the students in publicsecondary schools, stratified teaching is thus put forth to influence the presentteaching and implement the teaching reform according to students’ different levels.Stratified teaching, the essential of which is to teach at different levels, is a moreflexible teaching method, which breaks off traditional teaching and is beneficial toeach student’s development. The writer studies the effect of stratified teaching on middle students through acomparative research of students’ grades and learning process in one class withtraditional teaching and the other with stratified teaching. In this study, a questionnaire and three mathematical test papers are designed.Students from an ordinary class and an experimental class will be asked to completethe questionnaire and tested. The results:1. Stratified teaching is superior to traditional one in terms of the improvement ofstudents’ grades.2. Compared with traditional teaching, stratified teaching narrows the gaps betweendifferent levels, which is good for students of different levels in one class.3. Compared with traditional teaching, stratified teaching has a positive effect onstudents’ learning process which includes learning willingness, learning strategies, achievement motivation, sense of responsibility, learning levels, learning methods, learning enthusiasm etc. This paper has discussed and analyzed the study results and put forward somesuggestions for stratified teaching.1. Traditional teaching method and concept should be changed. Teachers shouldfocus on the students, think about how to teach, value the participation of studentsand the feedback of teaching.2. The idea of teaching should be transformed. Standards of students’ assessmentshould be updated to double assessment standards.3.
