As the internet gets increasingly widespread and network technology matures,various kinds of new network tools and carriers are continuously springing up. As thelatest social network which has been universally in fashion over recent years,microblog is fascinating more and more people, especially social personalities and theyoung who are keen on persuing the trend. As netizens joke, You are to feel ashamed togreet others if you aren’t a microblog user. In the subway,bus, boarding lounge, shopsand everywhere, it’s not uncommon to find that large quantities of people holdingdiverse brands of mobile phones or online entertaining devices are busy with blogging.We hardly doubt that microblog has become an indispensable lifestyle to contemporarypeople. College students—wave riders of the age—naturally constitute the main bodyof microblog users. On one hand, microblog facilitates news-updating and makes iteasier to obtain the latest information about persons you’ve followed. On the otherhand, however, when encountered with information mingling the good and evil,college students easily get puzzled and find it intricate to distinguish the true from thefalse owing to the lack of discrimination. What’s worse, out of curiosity andantagonistic psychology, a small part of college students even deliberately propagatebad information via microblog, which not only generates negative effects on collegestudents’ outlook on the world, life and their values, but also hinders the processing ofideological and political education and weakens its teaching effects.As a new sort of We-Media in the web2.0era, microblog enjoys uniqueproperties and superiority compared with other network tools. It’s worthwhile for everyideological and political educator to ponder how to correctly understand microblog,how to expand its positive influences to college students while eliminating the negativeside, and how to take advantage of microblog to launch ideological and politicaleducation towards college students. This essay outlines the topic background, meaningof the study, current study situation at home and abroad, and methods of the study aswell as its innovation at the beginning. Next, it summarizes theories relevant tomicroblog, gives a general overview about development progression of microblog and attempts to theorizes on its characteristics in the mean time. Then, combined withpractical situations, it discusses microblog’s influence on ideological and politicaleducation for college students, including both the positive and negative aspects. Finally,based on previous standpoints, it explores strategies to make good use of microblog inpushing ideological and political education of college students forward in the way ofDialectical Materialism and combining theory with practice.
