Practice Study On How India Institute Of Technology Become The World-Class University

Nowadays, the cooperation and competition between different countries largely depends on the high-tech talented person, so every country wants to create world-class university to train world-class person. There are more world-class universities in developed countries than in developing countries. As the motive force of India high-technology industry, India Institute of Technology’s rise makes us explore its development.India Institute of Technology is "Institution of national importance" in India. The first India Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, was founded in1951.with the goal to be the world-class university. During the more than half a century development, India Institute of Technology has become the best university in India with the support of the Government of India. The brand of IITs has been admitted by all social circles in India and abroad because of its high quality. With the development standard to be world-class university, and make it come true, its experience can supply us some inspiration.This article’s study objects are the first seven institutes, with the means of literature analysis, individual cases analysis method. And this thesis will explore the way and course of its system, person, resource and international cooperation, and summarize the achievements and challenges, in order to offer some enlightenments for our universities. There are five parts in this paper except the exordium. The first part is about the creation of India Institute of Technology, introducing the background, history, school-running concept and the status in India’s higher education. The second part is about the concrete measures taken by the ⅡTs to be world-class university, involving the management system, the absorption of talents、material guarantee, international cooperation. The third part is about the ⅡTs’achievements and challenges. The fourth part puts forward some enlightenments for our universities based on the past parts’ study. The last part is concluding remarks.This study shows that the ⅡTs’ good image around the world originated from a new and modern university system, established by India’s Government, with the goal to be top university. In the new system, the management institution is academic-oriented, the foreign resources are got full use, and with sufficient funds and excellent talents, the dream of being world-class university is coming true.
