Construction of the world-class university and the world-leading discipline in China is the major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee and the State Council.With more focus on the quality,in the age of the connotative development,higher education evaluation is considered as one of the most efficient ways to guarantee and improve the quality of higher education.It is also considered as an important component to construct the world-class university and the worldleading discipline.With the construction of world-class university in China,more and more universities are seeking several effective ways to promote the discipline construction and establish multiple quality evaluation systems during discipline evaluation.Discipline of International Evaluation is an effective way to construct worldleading disciplines and then to achieve the goal of establishing world-class universities by judging or diagnosing the situation of the world-leading disciplines.The aim of the study is to evaluate discipline through the standards of the worldleading disciplines adopted in many world-class universities,and to find the gap between universities in China and the world-class universities.With the discipline evaluation,valuable comments are offered to enhance the international visibility of discipline in China,thus contributing to building world-class disciplines and worldclass universities.Given the importance of international discipline evaluation in the construction of world-class universities,the key elements and mechanisms of discipline evaluation are discussed to clarify its theoretical and practical value in this study.Different types of the research methods are adopted herein,such as literature research,interviews,questionnaires and statistical analysis.We try to sort out the existing research results both at home and abroad.Then,systematically summary is conducted to clarify the formation and evolution of discipline evaluation both at home and abroad.Next,we propose three patterns of international discipline evaluation for different colleges and universities in China.Finally,the implementation of international discipline evaluation is built from systematical analysis and research,and the key elements of discipline evaluation will be obtained through questionnaires and Analytic Hierarchy Process.Some optimization strategies will also be provided to help the universities in China to enhance their discipline evaluation and achieve the goal of building world-class universities.
