Education is the driving force as well as the hope for the development of a nation. As long as education exists, teachers are needed. With the development of information technology in education, professional development for the teachers is increasingly attached importance and the role played by the teachers in the education process can not be ignored. In recent years, teachers continuing education has become a hot topic among people of insight. It has been proved by substantial facts that high-quality teachers can only come from good pre-service education, vocation entrance education, continuing education and self-pragmatic learning. The rapid development of information technology(IT) also makes education itself be changing. In the conference on teachers education work in2003, the Ministry of Education proposed the transformation of teachers education, indicating teachers education work develops towards comprehensively improvement on quality; At the beginning of the new century, the eighth curriculum reform on basic education was carried out and the scope of this reform involved is unprecedented both in theory and practice. The new round of curriculum reform is moving in-depth now; Promulgated by the Ministry of Education in2011, the main work points mentioned that the qualifications of pilot teachers would be examined every five years, bringing greater challenges for the teachers.Teachers continuing education is the main form to promote professional development for teachers, In the researches of continuing education, many scholars have done a lot of work. However, each subject has its different characteristic. Information technology is particularly special. It is a young and fresh subject with rapid development and change features and it plays a vital role in the development of students’information literacy. Therefore, the role of IT teachers is particularly prominent. Because of China’s vast territory and unbalanced development, the region of XinJiang is particularly special, and the continuing education of secondary school IT teachers in the XinJiang region is particularly special.This thesis gives an overview of the literature on continuing education at home and abroad firstly. After research on the mode of teachers continuing education at home and abroad, existent problems and countermeasures taken, taking the theory of lifelong education, the theory of adult learning and the theory of teachers’professional development as the basis of educational theory and inspiration, a questionnaire survey on the status of IT teachers in secondary school to receive continuing education in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang is conducted. Starting from the learning characteristic of IT teachers group and the subject characteristic of IT, the questionnaire survey investigates and analyzes the necessity, motivation, form, contents, time, assessment methods, and the expectations of continuing education of IT teachers in secondary school to receive continuing education. In the process of the questionnaire survey, part of IT teachers in secondary school is interviewed to complement the integrity of the investigation. By means of the questionnaire survey and the interviews, combined with my six months exercitation experience of supporting education in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang and interviews, this thesis finds out the needs and the problems of IT teachers in school to receive continuing education in the region. Thereby, from the level of IT teachers themselves, the level of secondary school, the level of government departments and administrative departments in education as well as the level of professional organizations in continuing education, localization strategies suitable for IT teachers in secondary school to receive continuing education in the region are proposed, including perfectting awareness, forming the theory of teachers’professional development, being an action researcher, building a learning organization, conducting teaching reflection, optimizing the teaching staff, enriching the training content, adjusting the form of continuing education, arranging the training time reasonably, improving the incentive mechanism, perfecting the evaluation methods,.etc, so as to meet the needs of masses of IT teachers in secondary school and to promote the development of teachers continuing education. At last, this thesis gives a summary and an outlook of the research.
