Today,the new curriculum reform is in full swing, quality education is vigorously promoting, lifelong education concept gradually been taking root, the professional growth of teachers has become the mainstream discourse of teacher education, and teacher continuing education as the only way for professional growth of teachers. Government, teacher education institutions, schools and teachers should highly value the teacher continuing education.This paper comprehensively survey the continuing education of teachers in primary and middle Schools in Xi'an city through questionnaires and interviews, and descriptive statistics for the questionnaires. And then from the perspective of professional growth of teachers to look at continuing education of teachers in Primary and Middle Schools status and issues, and put forward some feasible suggestions for these issues.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter, the origin ideas and methods of this study are proposed, and conduct a comprehensive review of teacher continuing education at home and abroad, while also defining the core concepts, and refers to innovation and deficiencies of this paper. ChapterⅡdetails the theory of professional growth of teachers, including:the concept of teacher professional growth, teacher professional growth situation and growth stage theory, and analysis of teacher continuing education and professional growth relationship based on the theory of teacher professional growth. ChapterⅢexplore the primary and middle schools present survey of continuing education in Xi'an city, and summed up their problems from the perspective of teacher professional development. This paper summarizes the main problems are:loss of teachers voice; effectiveness is not strong, theory and practice out of line; teachers lack of humane care. ChapterⅣ, for some of these problems, proposed to teacher professional growth-oriented strategies. National governments, educational institutions, schools and teachers should take responsibilities to continuing education, as a result national governments, educational institutions, schools and teachers should pay enough attention and work together. Therefore, this teacher professional growth-oriented strategies have put forward:the Government, should develop and improve the continuing education of teachers in relevant laws and regulations:effective continuing education for teachers involved in creating favorable conditions for teachers; establish a reasonable continuing education evaluation system. Teacher education institutions, teacher professional growth stage should be combined with the characteristics of a multi-level training model; with the actual teacher to construct a reasonable curriculum; according to the characteristics of teacher learning, the use of diverse teaching methods. Primary and secondary schools and teachers, to school-based training, the establishment of teacher professional development community; to teacher-centered, humanistic care to teachers; active teaching reflection, integration into the world of students and promote educational wisdom generated.In short, the continuing education of teachers aim at teacher professional growth is a new concept and orientation, continuing education of teachers is a long and arduous project, which requires the joint efforts of various departments, to create synergy and improvement for continuing to improve.
