The School Motto is likely a bright lamp guiding the school development direction and reflects the school’s educational pursuit and philosophy. As a few generations’ inheritance, the Motto eventually becomes a unique custom and spirit. The Motto as the soul and banner of the school, directing the school’s development is the concise summary of school’s philosophy and educational goals, and also the concentration of the school’s history and tradition that are shared by all the teachers and students.This paper attempts to analysis and research the cultural connotation and function of the motto for the Experiment school of S.M.S.. First of all, this research paper defines some relative concepts:Motto and cultural connotations, etc. Then, through the questionnaire survey and data analysis, the paper probes into the cultural connotation and function of the Experiment school of S.M.S.. Case studies are also employed to analyze the issues and its causation of the middle schools’ motto in China.This study described the principles and elements to develop the motto culture. To achieve the goal, three aspects-the school administration staff, the bridge of teachers and students and the school motto cultural spread-should be focused. At last, the research paper brings up constructive comments for the further development of school motto on its roles in the cultural connotation and function of school.
