School motto is one of important part of school culture. Although school motto has just very few characters, it summed up the school education concept and learning style with refined language. As the core and soul of school culture, school motto is the concentrated expression of education tradition and target. Recently, a lot of articles on mottoes of universities have been emerging, but researches on middle schools’ motto for the purpose of increasing knowledge, educating personality and valuing development are very few. With the ordination of the Notice about Strengthening the Construction of Campus Culture of Primary and Secondary Schools in2006by the ministry of education, many schools vigorously set up to construct their school culture, and develop their motto. But in the process of the construction of school motto, there still exist in a lot of problems, such as content being similar, forms being single, publicity being not to reach the designated position and function being not obvious. Among of those problems, the most prominent problem is that school motto which performed practically no function is not executed after being worked out. Therefore, in view of the research on middle schools’motto practice is particularly important.This study is based on the investigation and analysis of middle school motto practice in Dianjiang County Chongqing city. By using literature method and fieldwork method, the research explores the current situation, problems, reasons and set up strategies from the perspective of school culture. Through on-the-spot investigation, we found the problems existing in the middle school motto practice process in Dianjiang County mainly include the followings. Understanding for the function and value of school motto is not clear, exploring the connotation of the school motto is not thorough, the propaganda for school motto does not arrive, and not finding an effective way to exert the function of the school motto. The reasons can be attributed to the followings. Orderly, value degree is not enough and school motto is formalized; school motto has few association with educating and teaching practice; lack of explorations for the path to realize the function of school motto. In view of this, this article proposes some strategies for motto practice, including strengthening leading role about the school culture management of the school leaders, materializing the content of school motto as the campus landscape, continuously constructing school motto to effectively combining school motto with educating and teaching activities and arousing the autonomy of educates.Choosing the middle schools in DianJiang County Chongqing city as the research object, the range of this paper sample seems to be some narrow, combining with the limitation of language expression ability and the lack of professional knowledge’ accumulation which lead to the discussion for the problems, reasons and strategies in motto practice is not comprehensive. The research remains to be further perfected in the later.
