In recent years, our country has set off an upsurge of returning back totraditional Chinese culture, and learning Confucian classics—The Rules forStudents. Social organizations promote The Rules for Students though variousforms, and also many government departments, enterprises, institutions, andprimary and secondary schools promote management and establish groupculture by learning The Rules for Students. Why does The Rules for Studentsgain widely concern and respect in this modern society of pursuing economicinterests universally? People discuss about this phenomenon one after another,but real rational research works are not so much. How to understand, use anddevelop the essence thoughts of The Rules for Students correctly needs theacademic community to further explore.The Rules for Students written by LiYuxiu who is the Qing Dynastyscholar, with concise langue and common contents, it inherits the Confucian’sintellectual tradition of Filial Piety and integrity which is the best enlightenmenttextbook for the students to develop outstanding virtues since ancient times.The full text begins with“The students should firstly be filial to parents, showrespect to brothers, speak with caution honest, love the others, and close to thepersons of great virtue. If they still have spare capacities, they may learncultural knowledge.” And it converts the Confucian’s thought of traditionalFilial Piety, speaking with caution honest and universal love to the specific rulesfor action, which can guide the students to self-cultivation and to fulfill theirduties. This essay contains the focal points about family education, moraleducation and education of filial piety, and also elaborates the objective lawswhich the moral education should follow. Moreover, it also refers to somevirtue-training methods, such as integrating theory with practice, getting closeto a man of talent, leaving from the villain, and reviewing their own problems,which provides good tips for cultivating noble virtues.This essay seizes this point as an opportunity, using historical materialism,literature review, case study and comparative study to discuss the moralthoughts of The Rules for Students in detail. This paper summarizes the writtenbackground of The Rules for Students, the author’s life and theoretical origin;sorts out and analyzes its basic moral contents; excavates and elaborates themoral law; summarizes and analyses the moral cultivation methods which TheRules for Students is venerated. In addition, this paper though thinking themodern value of moral thought and researching situation confirms thesignificance and values of studying The Rules for Students in modern society and also gains the right way to learn and implement it. And finally this essaydraw a conclusion that the Chinese traditional culture which is consider TheRules for Students as representative still has great effects and significance in ourmodern society.
