The value of rural teachers lies in their roles, responsibilities and function insideand outside the system of the education. In China, Because of some influence of thefactors such as the urban-rural dual structure, the rural modernization, the value ofrural teachers has more social significance. Sometimes, the value of rural teachersconflicts with the aim of the education which promotes the human’development, sothey are the state of the lost. From the view of the educational aim, Giroux’s criticalpedagogy defines the teacher’s role as the cultural worker. Just as he said that teachersare the transformational intellectals. It makes the education’s、the teachers’ and thestudents’ development goals in accordence with social development needs and makesthe teachers own the duble value.Firstly, this paper points out that two performances of the lost of the value of therural teachers in China: the alienation of the nature of the education and the alienationof the teachers’ development. Of course, there are more specific embodiments. Forexample, the educational purposes don’t meet the the need of students; the content ofthe teaching is lack of subjective experience; the methods of the teaching are ignor theequal exchange. Then the paper analyzes some factors that result in the lost of thevalue of the rural teachers. These factors include the internal and the external reasonsof the education. The internal reasons are the unreasonable structure of the ruralteachers’team and the particularity of the rural teachers’ teaching activies. Theexternal reasons include the level of profuctivity development, education system andpersonnel management system.This paper summarizes the main ideas of the Giroux’ critical pedagogy. Girouxthought the school as the public domain and the teachers as the transformationalintellectals. And he put forward that the educational objects are citizens of courage.Meanwhile, the paper establishes the contact between Giroux’s theory and the valueof rural teachers in China, summarizes the Giroux’s comments on the presentsitiuation of education in our nation, and analyzes the possibility that we learn histheory to improve our rural teachers’value and we change our rural teachers into the transformational intellectals. On the basis, the paper recognizes the value of the ruralteachers and puts forward the connotation of the value of the rural teachers. Thesenonnotations include the guide of the students’ civic courage, the explorer ofdeveloping courses, the deconstructers of classroom text, the interlocutors ofachieving the equal exchange and the participants of improving the socialdevelopment.Contraposing the performances of the lost of the rural teachers’ value in ournation, learning form the theory of Giroux’s critical pedagogy, putting forword thestrategy for the realization of the rural teachers’ value, the paper lastly put forwarf thestrategies for the improvement of the rural teachers’ value. For example, we shouldchange the training the teaching model of the rural teachers and increase the educationfunds.
