As private school education of the Han Dynasty thrives, it changed the situationof “learning in the local authorities” since the Western Zhou Dynasty, bringing mostmiddle and lower class people chances to read. The education of Chinese characters ofthis period has achieved remarkable success as the ruler of Han Dynasty attachimportance to the education of words, giving a powerful shove-ahead to thedevelopment of politics, economics and culture, then came the earliest extant textbookon reading and writing called 《Ji Jiu Pian》, and came into being some effectivemethods on how to read and write which have an effect on the later characterseducation.Taking the characters education of the Han Dynasty as study object, this paperreviewed a considerable stack of related historical sources, points out the effects offonts of characters theory of formations of Chinese characters, the policies of cultureand education of Han Dynasty and social factors on the characters education byintroducing the background characteristic of the characters education of Han Dynasty;concludes the characteristics of the teaching materials and the teaching method of HanDynasty by the case study on the reading text book called 《Cang Jie Pian》and《JiJiu Pian》of Han Dynasty; Finally, this paper analyses and studies the characterseducation of Han Dynasty by using the comparative method, then accordingly raisesseveral suggestions to the contemporary education of the elementary Chinese readingand writing. This paper suggests: Firstly, the characters education should be combinedwith characteristics of the words. The proper reading teaching method should bechosen according to the characteristics of phonetics, pattern, meaning of the Chinesecharacter. Secondly, the Chinese characters education should be combined withpersonality cultivation. We should excavate ideological content in teaching material,and personality should be embodied during the process of the Chinese charactersteaching, meanwhile the requirements of personality should be integrated in thecharacters education evaluation. Finally, the Chinese characters education should becombined with aesthetic education. We should excavate the aesthetic factors in theChinese characters, and pay great attention to the education of writing and calligraphy.
