At this moment, little attention was paid to bringing up students’innovation ability in Shanghai middle school. To improve this situation,as set of biotechnological experiments were set up and studied to developstudents’ thinking ability and innovation ability by referring to theStandard of Life Sciences courses from Shanghai Municipalgovernment, experience from colleagues and self and published paper inthis fields. All educational activities were carried out to focus onstudents’ ability etc development in question sense, hands-on skills, analog migration, reverse thinking, summary and expression ability. Thewhole course comprised of two parts, one is microbe and human being, including three experiments; second part is Genetic material--DNA,including another three experiments. First part was aimed to stimulate theinterest of students to explore the unknown things; second part isdesigned to encourage students to explore the cutting edge of today’s lifesciences and developing the ability of applying the knowledge in dailylife.Meanwhile, multidimensional evaluation system was set up toevaluating of students’ learning effect by examines as well asquestionnaire, students’ performance including students’ knowledgeacquisition, innovation ability, learn interest, team-work performance, thinking, knowledge application ability etc.The results of teaching practice show that students’ innovationability such as interests in study, abilities of observation and questionanalysis has been enhanced through the innovative teaching methods ofbioengineering experiments designed in the study.First, the students’ interests of life science experiments increases26per cent in experimental class, while4.4per cent in reference class.Second, students’ learning ability including self-motivatied learning andcooperation learning increases26per cent in experimental class, while4.3per cent in reference class. Third, students’ ability of knowledge application increases32.5per cent in experimental class while4.3percent in reference class. Meanwhile, students’ expression skill in reportingexperiments has been improved a lot in experimental class. By thecomparison, the innovation ability in experimental class increases16.9per cent, while the percentage of the reference class changes little. As the results of teaching practice evaluation shows, the experimentdesign of bioengineering in this study conforms to the states ofknowledge and cognitive ability of junior high students, which wellstimulate students’ interests in study and the enthusiasm of exploring, aswell as bringing up students’ core innovation ability like observation andproblems analyses correctly. The study aims at collecting valuable information and experiencefor transform the experimental teaching contents, methods of life sciencein junior high school from knowledge-delivery to innovative abilityfocused education.Since only two cycles of practice was carried out in one junior highschool, teaching effect evaluation data is not sufficient for conclusiondrawing in the study. Thus, we need more schools and more time to beinvolved in this experiment for teaching practice inspection andimprovement.
