As the Web2.0technology is getting more mature, the social software hasdeveloped rapidly, which is a typical application of Web2.0. As a product of Softwaresocialization, the social software achieved to build a platform for communicationbetween people with the network technology and to reflect the "resource sharing"concept of Internet completely. Social network learning is the learning that is on thesupport of social software, which is a new way of learning in network times. Socialsoftware can provide a favorable communication tools for learners. The learners cancommunicate, collaborate and share a variety of learning experiences with itaccording to their own interests, without the limitations of time and place, and togoing on a pleasant and efficient learning. Therefore, nowadays the social networklearning is more and more becoming a trend.In order to meet the different learning needs of different people, the socialnetwork learning has become a very important learning form. It is particularlyimportant to do the social network learning using the social software as thedevelopment of network technology. This article puts forward and discusses the viewsof social network learning based on the long tail theory, which comes from the longtail theory’s guiding role for social software’s application in the learning field.The paper analyzes the views of social network learning based on the long tailtheory, which is based on reading a lot of literatures at home and abroad, by using themethod of documentation, questionnaire and quantitative research. On the support ofthe scale free network theory, six degrees of separation theory, the rule of150, the150N era theory and the long tail theory, it concludes that learning can also beconstrained by the long tail theory based on the fact that learning area has significantlong tail phenomenon. And it puts forward and discusses the views of social networklearning based on the long tail theory. At the same time, it introduces the socialnetwork learning practice from Podcast and mashing up social software to constructPLE. Firstly, it chooses the Podcast as the representative to confirm that there is aclear long tail phenomenon in the social network learning. Then it analyzes the longtail theory’s guiding role for Podcast’s application in learning field. Finally,combining the author’s major, it makes "mashing up social software to promote the teacher professionalization in vocational education" as a case to analyze the socialnetwork learning practice.
