With the constant deepening of quality-based education, the ordinary universitysports technology teaching are facing a new situation and challenge, the traditionalpassive teaching mode (explanation demon-stration-practice) can not admit today’ssports teaching. Face the challenge of the new situation, it is urgent and necessary toreform the traditional teaching skill and trying some new ones. The present authorbelieves that the will be beneficial to adopt the teaching skill of “essential symbol”created by (沙塔洛夫),famous educationalist and reformer from the former SovietUnion,in the skill teaching of physical education.The “essential symbol” can be generalized as that teachers,on the basis of studyingcarefully, emphasizing the key Points,analyzing the difficulty points and consideringthe logical relationship between various parts of knowledge,display the knowledgethrough the “essential symbol”, and teach with the core of “essential symbol” graphs.Since the creation of “essential symbol” teaching skill, it has been developedquickly out of its notable effect. In former Soviet Union,there were more than tenthousands of teachers applying the skill as early as in the1970s,covering disciplines1ike physics,history,mathematics and so on. Hungary began to use it from1968,andFrance,from1971. The skill is spreading now.Generally speaking,the“essential symbol”skill is practical and feasible inuniversity volleyball elective course, It contains the next three features:1.The “essential symbol” fit mind and body of college students.2.The “essential symbol” made the content of courses vivid, and stimulated thestudent’s enthusiasm and initiative.3.The “essential symbol” made the key and difficult stand out, Help studentsestablished a clear and correct motion representation. Using the method of cultural heritage data method, questionnaire survey,experimentation, mathematics covariance method and interview method etc, the authorhas taken the skill teaching of the volleyball class in the commercial college ofSoochow University as the object,carried out comparative experiments between theskill of “essential symbol” and traditional teaching skill the distance. The authoracquired a large amount of dates of experimental class V. comparison class on the basisof extensive researches, investigations and experiments. After studying and analyzingthe statistics, the experiment result turn to be as following:1.Using “essential symbol” of teaching in volleyball electives is very essential andfeasible.2.The “essential symbol” got students good reputation, and can promote teacher’sprofessional skill. It is a kind of effective teaching aids.3.The implement of “essential symbol” of teaching can boost students’ interests instudying, convert students’ attitude towards study to a better side.4.Using “essential symbol” of teaching in volleyball electives can heightenstudents’ sports skill level.
