International student, means the foreigner who enter the institutions of higher learning in Chinese mainland. International student in this study refers to the degree students, including undergraduates and graduate students. Only by adapt the Chinese cultural can be make the international student complete their courses. The aim of this study is understand the status of Nanchang University foreign students in cross-cultural adaptation and take some suggestions for their adaptation.The questionnaire in this study was intergraded by General Health Questionnaire (GHQ12) and International Student Cross-cultural Adaptation Questionnaire from Yang Junhong’s Doctor Thesis. One hundred and fifty one international students from Nanchang University participated in the study, and four international students from different countries were interviewed thorough. The survey results show that:(1) cross-cultural adaptation level of Nanchang University foreign students is at the middle level, scores from high to low ranking:academic adaptation. social and cultural adaptation, psychological adaptation.(2) there are significant differences between international students in cross-cultural adaptation of gender, nationality(location), age, how long have they been China and language ability (3) sex, nationality(location), age, how long have they been China, and language ability have the impact to the cross-cultural adaptation level of international students.Based on the above analysis, the study proposes the following measures:reform the management of international students, implement of the "differences in management; establish various consultation channels and communication networks to encourage students to participate in the cultural life of the local community, give them a comprehensive and objective understanding of Chinese cultural characteristics; strengthen cross-cultural training of teachers and management staff for improve their understanding of different cultures; establish a mental health education system bases on school, teacher and student, early detection, timely intervention; pay attention for the effect of peer counselor’s in the process of cross-cultural adaptation.
