Both the “Ordinary High School English curriculum standard(experiment)” published in Mainland and the “Hong Kong High School English Curriculum and Assessment Guide”released in HKSAR both make clear the related goal of the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness and the improvement of cultural communication ability.The very important position of cross-cultural teaching highlights the progress of English teaching from the situation above.This thesis focuses on two reading text(New Senior English for China &Activate Complete Exam Practice for the HKDSE,short for NSEFC&ACEPFHKDSE)as its research object,the corpus' content are selected from high school English textbooks respectively used in GD province and HKSAR,mainly concentrating on two dimensions,one is the statistic analysis of international culture,the other the intercultural communicative content.Through the process mentioned above,the author attempts to synthetically compare the characteristics of inter-culture contents between the two textbooks.The findings of this study are summarized as follows:1.According to the text data statistics,HKSAR high school reading texts give priority to target language culture namely American culture,British culture,but the statistical results on the frequency of regional culture loaded words indicates that it pays more attention to HK local culture,while the traditional culture in mainland China is sidelined.The culture in the outer circle lacks variety than the NSEFC;GD textbook is gives priority to Britain,and American culture with the Chinese culture in the third.It also exposes diversified world culture knowledge in its texts.2.ACEPFHKDSE reading texts of cross-cultural communication appear in the style of journalism reports on the following aspects as nature phenomenon,democracy,charity,nature,modern society;NSEFC seems to follow the style of primary introduction of foreign culture lingering on the recognition and appreciation level.Breaking down the majority of cross-cultural communication content are national history human geography;Both textbookspresent fewer cross-cultural comparisons,ACEPFHKDS gives more priority to data contrast than NSEFC,while NSEFC directly presents cultural differences.Finally,in view of the findings mentioned above,this author puts forward some suggestions for the teaching materials development in GD province or HKSAR;Both textbooks revision should actively explore systematic and specific cross-cultural teaching materials which as much as possible contain introduction of customs,religious beliefs,taboo subject,cultural conflict,etc between different countries,also,different ways of thinking should be highlighted;contents with cultural contrast are more expected in culture teaching.
