The Research About The Core Abilities Of College Counselors

Our country and party has always attached great importance to the ideological andpolitical education of college students, focusing on the construction of collegecounselors’ team and the cultivation of their core ability. College counselors are theskeleton force to the ideological and political education of college students; theorganizers, executors and instructor of student work; the students’ mentors and closefriends. As counselors, they have multiplied roles in a body, playing an active andindispensable part in the ideological and political education of college students.Additionally, they contribute to the construction o f a harmonious campus culture andpromoting college students’ all-round development. Such changes of international anddomestic situation as the impact of culture and value diversification, the thoughtfluctuation caused by the economic and social transformation, the popularization ofhigh education put forward new requirements to the college counselors. In order tomeet the needs to the development of times and practical work. The occupation skills,which regard the counselors core ability as the essence, have to be adjustedcorrespondingly.The occupation skills, especially the core ability is related to the results of theideological and political education of our college students. The career development ofcollege counselors have a direct impact on the sustainability and effectiveness of itscore ability. The paper starts from the role of the college counselors to interpret theircareer responsibilities, mission requirements and analysis the occupation skills to theirpost. Besides, it extracts many core abilities of the college counselors such as theability of ideological and political education, humanistic concern, quality development,management, mental health and so on. In the historical review and the current analysisof the college counselors’ core abilities, the paper illustrates the problems in thecounselors core ability-building and analyze the reasons. Finally, concerning about thedrawbacks in the process of the construction of college counselors’ team and the coreability training come up with the suggestions and countermeasures from twoperspectives of my individual and organization.
