Respect for the learners’ individual differences to promote their personalizedlearning is one of the core concepts of the Basic Educational Reform. English, as alanguage subject, should face to all learners, and concerns about the differentcharacteristics and differences of the learners. For a long time, it is difficult to respecteach learner’s individual differences in classroom teaching that the learners failed toachieve individualized learning. With the extensive application of artificialintelligence technology in the field of education,adaptive learning system providesdifferent learning contents and navigation paths, as well as appropriate learningstrategies to learners based on learners’ personalization features. Therefore,development and research of adaptive learning system could make the realindividualized learning become possible.Learner model, which stores learner personalization features, is the core modelof adaptive learning system. And then, it is described by intellectual factors andnon-intellectual factors that closely related to the learners’ personalization features.Learning styles, as important non-intellectual factors of the learner characteristics,reflects the learners’ individual differences best. Thus, building a model of learningstyles in adaptive learning systems is profound to achieve learners’ personalizedlearning. The goal of this study like this: Constructing the targeted and localizationjunior Middle English learning style model to provide the basis for the developmentand practices of adaptive learning systems. The main ideas are as follows:First, the study analyzed the related research at home and abroad, summed up theproblems and research focus.Second, the related theories of adaptive learning systems and learning styleswere introduced to clarify the relationship among adaptive learning system, learnercharacteristics, and learning styles.Third, the deep meaning of English learning was explained by three learningtheories and the main factors which impact middle school English learning wereconcluded to lay the foundation for building a learning style model.Forth, the paper analyzed the demands on learners’ knowledge, ability, strategyand so on based on the new standards of middle English curriculum, positioned the function of learning style model in adaptive learning systems. And then, defined thedimensions and elements of the learning style model and built the learning stylesmodel of middle English learners in the adaptive learning system by reference toappropriate learning style model.Fifth, combining the middle school English learning, the “III phase-V level”Learning Styles Inventory was designed according to the learning style model, whichestablished in this study and handed out them to the middle school students, thenrecovered them, and analyzed the data, drew the conclusion to verify the learningstyle model.Sixth, the paper analyzed the applications hypothesis of the learning style modelin middle school English adaptive learning system, built in this article theoretically.Finally, the paper summarized the research work of this study and pointed out thedeficiencies and the further work.
