The Survival Circumstances Of Independent Colleges In Hubei

At the end of20th century, the world enters the ear of knowledge economy. With the development of knowledge economy and the maturity of knowledge industry, the scale of higher education is expanded to some extent. The demand for higher education exceeds the supply; as a result, it creates the imbalance between supply and demand. In order to relieve the shortage of educational resource, there exists a new school-running model of higher education under the new situation---independent college. So far, altogether there are320independent colleges nationwide; Hubei has31independent colleges, which occupies the first place in China. Hubei is one of earliest provinces to set up the independent colleges, after nearly a decade of development, the number of students comes to more than200,000. During the process of development, it meets a lot of opportunities and challenges. In this thesis, the author makes a case study on the survival circumstances of independent colleges in Hubei, and then puts forward several relevant countermeasures based on the analyses.This thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter one:This chapter firstly puts forward the research problems; then it introduces the theoretical and practical significance of the study; thirdly, it analyzes the research situation at home and abroad; finally, it defines the relevant conceptions and introduces the research thoughts and methods.Chapter two:This chapter makes a case study on the W college in Hubei. The author analyzes the problems according to the following six aspects:the developmental stages of W college; the objectives&characteristics of W college; the cultural construction of W college; the construction of teaching staff in W college; the talent cultivation of W college; career guidance of W college. At last, the thesis analyses the survival circumstance of W college.Chapter three:these chapter discuses the development opportunities of independent college in Hubei. This problem is mainly analyzed from the following four facets. That is, the appearance of knowledge economy; the running experience of the foreign private schools; the policy support of the government; the important status of Hubei in the rise of central China.Chapter four:This chapter analyses the dilemma in the process of development. By analyzing these problems, the author raises the problems.Chapter five:In this chapter, after analyzing the problems, the author puts forward the relevant countermeasures. These measures mainly include three parts, firstly, it is the rational orientation; secondly, it the improvement of self-cultivation; thirdly, it is the establishment of brand of independent college; finally, it is the increasing of social identity.
