Lushi Ancestral Temple:a Study On The Function Transition And Reconstruction About A Public Place Of Culture In A Rural Community

There are so many ancestral temple studies about the temple’s value、function and how to use and protect the temple in sociology、anthropology and history. Because of the temple is the emblematize of the phyle, such literates base their studies on the ancestral temple. It is rare to see who put the ancestral temple in the public space of culture and do some research from political point of view.Hakka’s ancestral temple of the building can be traced back to the Song and Yuan Dynasties, then in Ming Dynasty has entered a period of great prosperity. This paper put the Lushi ancestral temple as the object of my study which is the typical temple of Hakka. It was built in the end of the Ming Dynasty and destroyed twice. Now the temple we see was the third rebuilt during seven years of Guangxu.To face the village which have rich cultural deposits and the rich history ancestral temple, author want to do some research with the Hakka ancestral temple in the view of a public space of culture. Under the different relation of the state and society, the function of the temple has different changes, such as the social education and grassroots governance center in traditional period changed to the education place in collectivization period, then be a public place of culture since reform and opening-up. The Lushi ancestral temple loading dub functions:the memorize of culture and the development of economic. To analyse thepolitical and social function of Lushi ancestral temple in three different historical period, author always put the relation of the "state—society" as the view point, under that relation to discuss the logic change of temple functions, then summarize the ways to construction the rural public space of culture under the new situation.The public space of culture in rural is one of the elements that runs a healthy rural community. In the public space of culture, the horizontally connection between the villagers reinforced, the public opinion is more useful and cooperation is easier to achieve. Farmers participate in the activities of the public space will help to develop their public spirit and awareness. In the rural areas,the build of the public space should be at the core of the cultural construction. Having experienced the change of state and social, the ancestral hall which is an important public space in the rural social plays a better linking role in the construction of the new rural. So in order to building a new rural public space of culture not only need the protection of the ancestral temple as the representative of the traditional resources, but also the increased investment in resources of the state and other social forces and with the farmers enthusiasm. All of that can promote the construction of the public space of culture in rural.
