On Issues Of Religious Belief Among University Students

Since China’s reform and opening to the outside world, the country has entered the transitional period along with her booming economy. The society is setting off a phenomenon known as "religious upsurge", which affected university campus, on which a large number of university students turn into "religion wait-and-see observers","doctrines worshipers", or "religious culture followers". This special group of young university students holds the future, and they are the hopes of development, bearing the responsibilities and missions to re-energize Chinese nations. Their belief not only shapes their personal growth and development but also determines the success and failure of socialist cause of Chinese nations. Therefore, to attach great importance to and look deep into the religious issues from university students nowadays is a great need to promote their healthy mental development on the one-hand, and on the other, it is a great need to guide the ideological and political education in socialist universities.With that, the author has carried out sample investigations to the university students from over ten universities and colleges in Chongqing Municipality, and has undertaken analysis along with documents in order to find the true reasons why university students believe in religions. Hopefully, the research will help find the strategies for university ideological and political education, and also help resolve the problems which the students meet with in the process of their education in this field.This dissertation embodies five parts:Part One is to look into the importance which aims to strengthen the research on the religious belief of university students. Part Two is to investigate, by way of questionnaire, the status quo of present university students’religious belief. Part Three is to look into the chief characteristics of university students’ religious belief, on the basis the questionnaire. Part Four is to inquire into the reasons why university students believe in religions from different perspectives. Part Five is to put forth suggestions in terms of their religious belief.
