Religion is an objectively existing social phenomenon as well as one of the most important characteristics of human society regardless of time and space. Human has religion whereas other animals do not. For this reason, it has been a hot topic from ancient times to present all over the world.Recently, along with the improvement of people's living standard, their spiritual pursuit has been enhanced. As an important social awareness, religion has become more and more important. Moreover, under the condition of globalization and informationization, religion has been spreading and diffusing into universities and colleges via internet and wireless communication. Lots of students exhibit great interest in religion, which is the embodiment of "increased religion enthusiasm". In June,2010, the author conducted a questionnaire survey about university students' attitude toward religion in several cities, including Changchun, Jilin City, and Siping in Jilin Province. Based on the analysis and investigation of the survey, the overall state and the basic characteristics of university students' religious belief was obtained and summarized primarily. In Marxist view, religion is people's illusive and distorted reflections of natural power and social forces which control them. These reflections are reversed view of the world. Whatever its forms are, religion is irrational and non-scientific in essence. However, under the socialist system, there are reasons to keep the existence of religion, which can be beneficial to the development of the society to some extent. Because of the idealistic nature of religion, its fundamental objective is not at all to facilitate the development of the society and its negative effect that results from its conflictions with Marxist is significant. Even though there are enhanced ideological and political education for university students which instructs them to establish scientific view of the world, view of life and view of value, there are still a small number of students who became over-enthusiastic or addictive to religion, and some of which became religionists. Our survey indicates that the influence of religion on university students is not negligible and the challenges for ideological and political education are also not trivial for university educators.University students are critical human resources for the development of technology and economy construction. They are the constructers and successors of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Moreover, they are responsible for the rejuvenation of China. As a result, their attitudes toward religion will not only affect their own overall development, but also will determine the success of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This makes it very critical to know their religious belief and help them establish a correct understanding on how to view and deal with issues of religion. Besides, it becomes a historic mission for higher educators to assist students in establishing their view of the world with dialectical and historical materialism, which is very significant in maintaining social stability, protecting national security, enhancing ethnic harmony, and promoting national unity. Here, we analyzed the factors influencing university students' attitude toward religion from multiple aspects, including social factors, family factors, university factors, students'own factors, religious factors, and political factors. The results suggest that there are correlations between students' attitude about religion and university's ideological and political education. To improve the efficiency of university's education, we put forward methods and strategies to help students realizing the real nature of religion, establishing correct view of their life, understanding their historic responsibilities, and being consistent in their belief. To do so, it will help them to become strong promoters of advanced productive forces, active propagators of advanced culture, and faithful protectors of people's interest.
