Weihai City Primary School Skating Movement Development Present Situation And The Research

Roller skating is one of the most popular sports at home and broad. It combinesinterest, health, technique and enjoyment in one, and fascinates numerous youngsters.On its development, detailed studies have been conducted by Chinese experts andscholars. Many faults and setbacks on the development of the sport are demonstratedin the results. Especially the insufficient dissemination about roller skating is mainlyresponsible for the underdevelopment of the sport. Therefore, the dissemination andpopularizing of roller skating in youngsters bear great significance. It is significant tothe full development of the sport, and to the development of the national physicalexercise. As an indispensable part in the primary school, P.E. course plays an activerole in cultivating P.E. spirit and P.E. habit. The P.E. in school should develop thosenew courses which can build up students’ body, and can cultivate good spirit on theother hand. As a new course, the roller skating caters for the trend.This paper makes full investigations on the teaching and learning of roller skatingin15primary schools in Weihai city, Shandong province. It takes research methodslike literature reviews, questionnaires, interviews and statistics.The result of this study shows that the development of the roller skating in the15primary schools differs greatly from each other. The differences lie mainly in the4aspects, namely, the teaching personnel, court and equipment, the teaching contentand contest participation. Specifically, the teaching personnel are in great scarcity.Many of the teachers are not professional, and know little about the course. The courtand equipment are in shortage too. The teaching content is single and dull, focuses onspeed-skating only. Few students participate in contest. All of these result from factorslike school leaders concerning about the course, poor teaching personnel, lack ofinfluential contest, local economy and the traditional discrimination against the P.E.course.Considering these problems, this paper proposes5strategies.1, supervisingmeasurement must be made to enhance school’s concerning on the course;2, schoolsmust make full use of the education budget and social donate and improve the teaching facilities;3, in addition, schools must increase teacher’s ratio in rollerskating and increase professional training in this course;4, multilevel and diversifiedcontests must be encouraged and organized;5, dissemination of the roller skatingmust be conducted through various approaches to publicize and popularize rollerskating sport to increase its influence on the society.
