Interpersonal trust is the core of interpersonal relationship, and theconcentrated embodiment of the interpersonal relating pattern in a society.The author patricianly observed two pastoral areas with anthropological fieldwork method, find out the trusting experiments of local people with differentgroups, and acquired lots of first-hand information. The author described thetrusting relationship of Mongolians in the pastoral area, and tried to analyzethe reason for the existence and extinction of many trusting relationship fromthe view of cultural transition.The thesis consists of6parts, introduction part introduced the reason forthe interpersonal trust been chosen as the researching subject, the researchingstatus on the trust from different subjects, and states the learning value and thepractical meaning, as well as the approach been used.Chapter one, introduction of the researching sites and the researchingexperience. This chapter introduced the reason for choosing the tworesearching sites in Xilinguole Meng, the production and daily life of localpeople, and the members of the family been observed. The experience of fieldwork is also involved in this chapter.Chapter two, description of the layered trusting relationship based onfield work. This chapter described the layered trusting relationship ofMongolians in pastoral area by different objects according to the collectedcases and materials through field work. Finding out that there are bothharmonious trusting relationships and trusting gap between family members;there are continue of the tradition of helping each other, and trusting crisisbrought by conflicts of interests. Thus, the author argued that trust is a kind ofdecision made according to rational consideration.Chapter three, the connection of tradition and interpersonal trust. In thischapter, the author contributed many trusting behaviors of Mongolians in thepastoral area to the continue of traditional culture according to the observationof the remaining of the traditional nomadic life style and intercourse pattern in nowadays society. The author regards traditional nomadism helpful to formthe relationship of helping and trusting each other. And the author peruses andanalyzes the trusting relationship described in Mongolian Secret History,points out that the trusting concept of Mongolians came into being long ago.Chapter four, The challenge of modernization to the traditionalinterpersonal trust. This chapter depicts the change of the lifestyle andthoughts of local person made by governmental policy and exotic informationbrought by modernization, then followed the change of the way people arerelated and their trusting relationship. The author argues accordingly that thesense of core value brought by modernization is not based on local culture,and it’s not proper to be accepted as whole.The conclusion part combs the content of the thesis, and concludes: Thetrusting relationship of Mongolians in pastoral area is molded by traditionalMongolian life and local environments, as Arthur Kleinmann said:"Moralexperiments are always based on the practical experiments in the specifiedlocal world which is a space consists of the specified culture, politics andeconomics." When the local world is changed because of the challenge ofmodernization, the trusting relationship of people changed accordingly. Thus,the traditional culture should rather play an more active role than accept thesequence of modernization passively when modernization is unavoidable.
