The rapid development of China’s economy, results in intensifying social competition and alsobrings about the huge pressures of people’s lives. In recent years,"death from overwork"phenomena continue to occur, university teachers have become a high-risk groups of "death fromoverwork". The macro background, organizational environment as well as the universityteachers’ group features, and many other reasons lead them to overwork. Long-term overworkwill result in "death from overwork", and bring out a series of serious consequences. Universityteachers overwork not only damage their own physical and mental health, but also areunconducive to the long-term development of the universities. If the society does not widelyconcern and the government does not give policy intervention to the university teachersoverwork phenomena, it will do harm to the sustained and stable developments of the social andeconomy.In this paper, through an empirical study of the university teachers in Wuhan city, it found thatthe university teachers had a high degree of overwork in general, the overwork degree of theuniversity teachers existed significant group differences in the terms of age, educationalbackground and job title. Also the empirical study investigated the impacts, reasons andpreventions of the university teachers overwork. On the basis of theoretical and empiricalresearch, combining with China’s basic national conditions, this study launched the three maincharacters: the government, the universities and the university teachers, from overworkingprevention, responsing and processing three levels, proposed the establishment of the universityteachers overwork countermeasures system to alleviate the problems of university teachersoverwork. |
