With the rapid development of international curriculum reform of basic education, theinstructional media have attracted more and more attention. Instructional media areindispensable elements in secondary school teaching, as well as the bridge connectingteachers and students. So to some extent, good or bad selection of instructional media canalso have a direct impact on teaching effect. Biology is one of the basic disciplines in thenatural sciences, different from other disciplines, it mainly imparts some knowledge ofprinciples and process. Only depending on language and words is hardly acceptance forstudents, the choice and optimization of instructional media can effectively improve theteaching effect, so as to achieve teaching objectives. The introduction of this paper mainly elaborates on the research situation of the issue, above analysis of the lack of contribution to the existing research, has established the researchquestions, research meaning and research objectives. On the basis of integrated and summedup the previous studies, Chapter one and two discuss the general theory andtheoretical principle of instructional media, also provide a theoretical basis for selection andoptimization of instructional media. Chapter three combined with middle school biologyclasses, summarizes the optimization principles and the specific applications of instructionalmedia, it provides a theoretical basis for chapter four. Chapter four analyzes the actualsituation of the instructional media used in the middle school biology, and find out thedeficiencies of the instructional media in the aspects of selection. Base on the optimizationprinciples of instructional media, Chapter four makes an induction on the choice of the kindsof instructional media according to the different types of biology class in middle school, andgive the corresponding teaching cases of some classic biology classes. Chapter five gives theconclusions and recommendations. In this paper, on the research of literatures of the instructional media and combined withthe features of the middle school biology, discuss how to select and optimize the middleschool biology instructional media. Through the study of this paper, a number of referencesand suggestions are put forward on the selection and application of instructional media. Thefirst one is that there should be emotional communications between teachers and students, students and students, but not a one-way transmission that only teachers send information tostudents on the biology class. Secondly, this paper analyze if the selection of instructionalmedia can achieve teaching objectives according to the teaching objectives and teachingcontent. Depending on the different features of the different subjects, the suitability of theinstructional media should also be distinguished. The selection of instructional media should suit the teaching objects. Because the abilities of understanding and acceptance may bedifferent from the students of different ages, selecting instructional media should consider thecharacteristics of different mental age of students. Finally, the selection of must be suited tothe educational conditions.
