With the development of the era of Information Technology, media has an unprecedented influence on the world. The understanding of media is not only limited to the level of information exchange any longer. It is the aim that Modern Educational Technology pursues to select and apply proper instructional media and change the instructional mode to improve instructional effect, efficiency and effectiveness and realize the great development in education.However, the choice and application of instructional media is very complicated work, because there are lots of factors to consider. They are not only from instructional aims, instructional activities, instructional contents and instructional methods, but from learners' characters, teachers' attitude and skills, instructional administration and conditions. Therefore, the choice and application of instructional media is a careful decision after considering many factors.This research suggests a relatively scientific and reasonable mode of the choice and application of the media in English instruction in senior high school based on learners' characters, especially their cognitive leaning styles and sensory learning styles besides other factors in effect. This mode can exert the advantages of many kinds of instructional media, offer extensive development space to learners of different styles, cultivate learners' learning interests, arouse learners' initiative and improve learners' ability of comprehensive application of English language.This research mainly includes, in theory, defining the theory of media in English instruction in senior high school, discussing the factors that affect the choice and application of instructional media and analyzing and suggesting a relatively scientific and reasonable mode of the choice and application of instructional media; in practice, analyzing the problems and abuses existing in the mode of the choice and application of instructional media at present, making the experimental research on the relationship between learners' learning styles and the choice and application of instructional media and validating the mode suggested above.Through the study on related theories and the author's teaching practice, this article suggests that the mode of the choice and application of instructional media based on learning styles is a most effective way of improving English instruction, which can realize the function of many kinds of instructional media, cultivate learners' learning interests, facilitate the development of learners' individuation, and improve instructional effectiveness.
