The Book of Chinese Reading for senior high school, as an important part ofChinese language teaching and learning materials which must be learned by the students inhigh school, is not only to provide extracurricular material for students’ self-reading andwriting but also to help teachers with the compulsory teaching. If efficiently used, the bookwill play an important role in increasing students’ reading quantity and developing theirreading abilities. However, it is found that even teachers don’t pay enough attention to thematerial, not alone students. It is a kind of a waste of the outstanding course resources. Inthis paper advice on two aspects is put forward after the book is systemic studied: the firstis making the Book of Chinese Reading itself perfect and the other is strengthening theguidance of teachers so as to attach greater importance to the Book of Chinese Reading. Asa result, the value of the book will be fulfilled.This thesis mainly includes the following aspects:The introduction: it introduces the purpose and the meanings of the topic selection,the present situation and development trend of the research both at home and abroad. It isdefinitely pointed the Book of Chinese Reading is a complementary material ofcompulsory teaching material, which is the basic nature of the book. The history, which isdivided into three parts, of the Book of Chinese Reading has also been told. The firstperiod is when the reading material is The Book. The second period is when extracurricularmaterial and The Book are two different things. And the third is when the extracurricularmaterial is a great helper of The Book.The first chapter: the characteristic and use of the Book of Chinese Reading. Thecharacteristics are stated in three aspects: the Enlightenment of the introduction, theabundance of the chosen material in The Book, the complementary of the material.The second chapter: The current situation about the use of the Book of ChineseReading and the analysis for the reason. The writer uses the questionnaire survey to learnthe current situation and help find the actual problems. The cause of the problem is listedon the following two aspects: the Book of Chinese Reading is not perfectly arranged and students’ reading needing the guidance of teachers.The third chapter: the application strategies of the Book of Chinese Reading. In thischapter, based on the principle of fully arousing the enthusiasm of students’ readinginterests, two ways are given: the Book of Chinese Reading should be more perfect andstrengthening teachers’ guidance to enhance the efficiency of the readers’ application.
