Tourism English as a new major that develops at a short time is still in theprocess of continuous improvement and development. Knowing the current trainingobjectives positioning of tourism English major in China, probing the problems andfinding the direction for improvement and promotion have certain value in promotingquality of tourism English major students in Higher Vocational colleges. Trainingobjective is the starting point as well as the destination of all teaching activities. It notonly determines the choice of courses, faculty development, teaching conditions andmethods,but also points out the direction for educational assessment. The purpose ofthis study is to investigate the target positioning, concludes the targeting feasibility ofthe program, to explore the training objectives foothold, furthermore, to promote thedevelopment of relevant theory and practice.Over the past decade, with the increasing of China’s overall national strength,outbound tourism is growing rapidly, especially the rapid growth of the private exittravel, which has become the most direct and the most vivid witness of the increasingof China’s comprehensive national strength and the improving of living standards aswell as the reform and opening-up to the outside world, a development pattern ofcombining inbound, outbound and domestic tourism has been formed. TourismEnglish market demand prompted a broad space for employment; international tourguide has become one of the much-needed talents in China. However, China’s tourismindustry started late, development time id short, lack of talent pool, leading to tourismpersonnel training lags behind the development of the tourism industry, hindering theupgrading of the level of internationalization of tourism. Facing of the seriousshortage of highly skilled personnel in tourism industry, to accelerate the developmentpace of internationalization of tourism, tourism English major in higher vocationaleducation must shoulder the important task of training highly-skilled tourismprofessionals.In this thesis, firstly, it expounds the theoretical basis of the training objectivepositioning of tourism English major in higher vocational education. Then taking Guangdong Province as an example, analyzes the demand and supply status quo oftourism English personnel, compares the training objectives at several vocationalcolleges in Guangdong Province and indicates its problems. On the basis of previousanalysis, it finds that the common purpose and the interest meeting points of bothsupply and demand sides,and points out the training objective of tourism Englishmajor in higher vocational colleges in modern China should be positioned onhighly-skilled tourism personnel, and probes its connotation, classification andinevitability of positioning. Finally, make some suggestions on the objectivepositioning, namely, to investigate deeply at pre-positioning period, to considercomprehensively at while-positioning period and to safeguard fully atpost-positioning period, in order to ensure that the highly-skilled tourismprofessionals objective can be achieved after positioning.
