The general education and the professional education are important parts of higher education. To our universities, it’s necessary for them to integrate. The integration is the need of man’s all-round development and the development of modern society. The integration is the need of the development of professional education, because the professional education needs supplement and perfection from general education. At the same time, the integration is the need of the development of general education, because the development of general education is inseparable from the professional education.But in our universities, there are some problems lying between the general education and the professional education. For example, the idea of general education and the idea of professional education are separable. The idea of professional education is dominant in the university. But the idea of the general education doesn’t go deep into the heart of student、teacher and administrator. So it’s hard in the practice. The curriculum of general education and the curriculum of professional education are separable. They are not integrate in teaching aim、curriculum system and so on. And the quality of the general education curriculum is not high. It has the tendency of instrumentalism and outline. It affects the effect of the general education implementation. The teaching of general education and the teaching of professional education are separable. There is difference between general education and professional education in teachers. The teachers are accustomed to using the traditional teaching methods. They apply the professional education teaching methods to the general education. It’s not good for the development of general education.There are some reasons accounting for the problems between the general education and the professional education in our universities. The utilitarianism in our universities is serious. It is because of the historical tradition and the realistic situation. The divisional professional system in our universities affects the integration. Profession is the basic organization form of our universities. Profession has its own limits、power and self protection. So the limit of the profession is hard to break. Now the modern university is often divided into fragments by the profession. The development of general education of our university is imperfection. It mainly studies and introduces the foreign general education theories and doesn’t form the theoretical system that can apply to our universities. It can’t convince people and guidance the general education practice concretely. And in the general education practice, we often use the foreign practical pattern for reference and apply it to our university directly. We lack the study to our own high education and the reformation and innovations to the foreign general education practical pattern. So the general education practice becomes the mere formality.The integration of general education and professional education is the need of the era development and the need of our university development. So we need to take some measures to make them integrate. Firstly, we need to publicize and promote the general education idea. The idea is the soul of university and guidance the university practice. Only when the idea is publicized and promoted could the teachers and students accept and internalize into workings learning. The idea spreads not only from the top to the bottom, but also from the bottom to the top. Secondly, we need to build the common basic curriculum to further the integration between the general education curriculum and the professional education curriculum. Setting up the common basic curriculum must take the consistency of the curriculum structure into account, and integrate and concentrate the enormous knowledge system, and pay attention to the longitudinal and transverse connection of the curriculum. We need to make the curriculum reasonable. The common basic curriculum must lay emphasis on foundation and comprehensiveness. Setting up the common basic curriculum must take the difference between the liberal arts students and the science students into account. The content of the common basic curriculum must have the depth and width. In order to guarantee the quality of the common basic curriculum, the students choosing the majors in the future must depend on the grades of the common basic curriculum. Thirdly, we must perfect the teacher—training system, spread postgraduate—assistant system, initiate cooperation—teaching. In order to perfect the teacher—training system, we must mobilize the enthusiasm of teachers to take part in the trainings. We must change the traditional teacher—training method. We must pay attention to the cultivation of the teacher’s educational idea、occupational moral and teaching skill. Spreading postgraduate—assistant system is good to teachers、postgraduates and undergraduates. Cooperation—teaching includes the cooperation between teachers、students and teachers and students.
