As the most important carrier of the curriculum, textbook is a most basicteaching and learning tool for teachers and students. For our country’s educationsystem, the role of textbook is even more important and irreplaceable. With theprocess of the new curriculum reform, more than ten editions of textbooks havebeen issued since the subject of moral and society was brought into China’s primaryschools in2001. This paper selects two editions of textbooks published by People’sEducation Press and Shanghai Education Press. By the comparison and analysis ofthese two editions, the paper aims to explore the common laws, characteristics andthe authors’ ideas of the textbooks of Moral and Society, to find out their respectiveadvantages and disadvantages, and to discuss the value, significance, experience andenlightenment of the textbooks for reference.The paper consists of six parts. The introduction part expounds in detail thebackground, cause and significance of the selection of the topic, the methods,purpose and thoughts of the research, and the relevant domestic research status.The related concepts involved in the paper are also defined in this part. The secondchapter mainly introduces the generation and development of the subject of societyand the subject of ideology and moral, and the establishment of the subject of moraland society in primary schools, the nature and objectives of which are alsointroduced. The third chapter focuses on the comparison and analysis of the prefaces,catalogues, texts and exercises of PEP and SEP textbooks, thus obtaining features ofand differences between the two editions in overall structure. On account of thegeneral nature of the subject of moral and society, the fourth chapter compares andanalyzes the overall content of PEP and SEP textbooks by separating the maincontent of the textbooks into four modules and then discussing and analyzing eachmodule respectively. The fifth chapter centers on the presentation characteristics ofPEP and SEP textbooks with an analysis of the respective characteristics of, and thesimilarities and differences between the presentations in image system and textsystem. In accordance to the above comparison and analysis, the peroration part summarizes the similarities and differences between PEP and SEP textbooks, andputs forward views and suggestions on each edition.With the comparison and analysis of PEP and SEP textbooks, we can findout that in spite of their own disadvantages, both editions have their unique featuresfor each other to refer to.“Stones of other hills may serve to polish the jade of thisone.” By comparing the content, overall structures and presentations of PEP and SEPtextbooks, the paper wishes that these two editions of textbooks can draw on eachother’s merits and offset their own weaknesses. In addition, the paper intends to putforward proposals for the compiling and revising of the textbooks in the future, andhopes to enlighten the teachers engaging in the instruction of moral and society onunderstanding the textbooks.
