The core of the basic education reform is the curriculum reform, and the curriculum reform ultimately implement the writing and design of teaching materials, the current circumstances of "various version base on one principle " is helpful for the comparative study of teaching materials. A comparative study of teaching materials can be provide reference for the teachers to master the teaching materials accurately, choosing the teaching materials appropriately and applying the teaching materials efficiently, it can also be provide well reference for the designers and the writers of the teaching materials.This thesis first use literature method to analyze the geography teaching materials of junior high school and compare the advantages and disadvantages as well as defines the concept of geography teaching materials. Then use statistical analysis, comparative and comprehensive analysis methods to analyze and compare the two different versions from several aspects e.g. world regions selection & organization, literal systems, imaging systems and activity system which are all based on the "compulsory education geography curriculum standards(2011 Edition)", the function of the constituent elements of geography textbook surface system, the subject characteristics and the physical and mental development of students. Meanwhile, this paper takes "Western Europe" for case analysis, summarize the advantages and disadvantages about the two versions and list the optimization suggestions. In this thesis, the research objects are "Geography"(Grade Seven Ⅱ) Textbook in 2012 Edition which are published by People’s Education Press and Hunan Education Press respectively.The selection about quantity and basis of world regions are different, and organizations also have their own feathers. Hunan Education Press version has more regions and larger amount of knowledge, some areas should be reduced or decrease the requirements in some relatively minor areas.Literal system is quite different. They should focus on the section title, Hunan Education Press version also should be strengthen the name of target topic, highlight the characteristics of regional geography; add in more teaching guide languages; and for reading materials part, Hunan Education Press version significantly has more materials than People’s Education Press version, they all should enhance the interesting of reading materials.About the body text, some are same and some are different. The layout of People’s Education Press version is better develop the ability of thinking. They all emphasis on the content of humanity geography, multi conclusive language, the briefness and specify. People’s Education Press version focuses on logical expression, develop the ability of thinking, note image code in the body, better implementation of the curriculum standards; Hunan Education Press version is detailed, too much content, but unfocused. Therefore, these two editions should be both increase the expression of diversified materials and enhance the infectivity of language; besides, in the present circumstances of large amount of knowledge, Hunan Education Press version should be focus on the key knowledge, delete some less-important information, strengthen the implementation efforts of curriculum standard, and enhance the coordination between text and image.Have focused on the use of imaging, imaging system is insignificant. The image of People’s Education Press version is more density. Both versions should be strengthen the usage of cartoons and comics and combination of image, People’s Education Press version should be strengthen the usage of satellite images; Hunan Education Press version should be increase geographic charts and insert the comments aside as needed. People’s Education Press version is more neatly and closely between the images, Hunan Education Press version displays the diversity between the images.About activity system each version has many kinds of activity and for designing activities have its own advantage. Hunan Education Press version has more activities. They both emphasis on the training of reading and analysis chart capabilities, and images oriented materials. People’s Education Press version is more focus on training the students thinking and discussion skills, and Hunan Education Press version more focus on training students’ s application ability and well mastered the comparative method of geography. Both versions should reduce the simple thinking activities. For designing activities, these two versions focus on penetrate the thoughts and comparative method of geography, develop the ability, and materials presented in various forms, carry out the activities to implement the curriculum standards, and overcome the difficulties in teaching. However, People’s Education Press version should be add some creative activities, provide diverse activities; improve the incomplete activities; Hunan Education Press version should be improve the uncoordinated situation between specific projects of activities and the literal systems; provide better preparation of knowledge, improve the activity design and focus on the curriculum standards’ demands.In addition, both versions are under achievements to the implementation of curriculum standards.
