Northwestern Shanxi (Jinsui) anti-Japanese base,one of the most important base areas, was founded by thearmy and local people under the leadership of theCommunist Party of China. It was located to the east ofthe Yellow River, setting up a solid barrier around theborder areas of Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia. In order to fightback the Japanese invaders and defend this area, the maleyoung adults were organized to fight in the front while thefemales were organized to support them at home. Withthis background, women’s life changed a lot, and fromthen on, they set foot on a path to their own liberation.Thisarticle is focused on the change of the women’s life, whichis aimed to describe everything exactly as it was. This article contains six chapters.Chapter one: This chapter totally describes thewomen’s life in the base area before the Anti-JapaneseWar from in every respect, including politics, customs,economy and culture life.The rest chapters introduced their life in detail after theAnti-Japanese War.Chapter two: This chapter focused on women’s familylife. The first section is about their marriage. The IinterimRregulations on Marriage issued by the government ofNorthwestern Shanxi established the principle ofindependent marriage, which greatly promoted themarriage liberation. More ordinary women asked forindependence in marriage, which, however, was still veryhard for those who were married to the soldiers. Thesecond section mainly introduces their ideas about healthand how to educate the children.Chapter three: This chapter discourses the fact that women began to go outside the home to participate thefarm work. The Textile Movement was a greatachievement.Chapter four: In this chapter, the author tells us thewomen’s education in the base area.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, womenbegan to attend night schools, the literacy classes orstudied in groups.Chapter five: This chapter gives us a full description ofthe women’s political life. At the call of the CommunistParty, women began to take part in the discussion and thehandling of state affairs, which was obvious a first of itskind.Chapter six: The last chapter reveals the tragic life ofthe women in Southwestern Shanxi, making a strikingcontrast.In short, this article is aimed to truly describe thechange in women’s life after the foundation of Anti-Japanese Government by The Communist Party inNorthwestern Shanxi.
