Permutation and combination, which are based on the counting principle, are twoimportant kinds of counting problems. Permutation and combination can developstudents’ ability to count and cultivate students’ ability of rigorous logic thinking, problem analyzing as well as problem solving. Therefore, the knowledge ofpermutation and combination is very important in the contents of high schoolmathematics. However, a lot of permutation and combination problems are morecomplex. It is easy for students to meet with the confusion of logic in analyzing theproblems. So the knowledge of permutation and combination is considered as adifficult point by teachers and students. It is an important subject for high schoolmathematics teachers and mathematics education researchers to study how to teachpermutation and combination and promote learning the knowledge. The purpose ofthis study is to determine the learning disabilities and the causes in permutation andcombination, and establish the effective teaching strategies to promote the learning ofpermutation and combination.Firstly, this paper summarizes the research results by consulting books, dissertations and various documents related to "the learning disabilities of permutationand combination", and defines the learning disabilities in this paper as the significantdifficulties that appears in the concept understanding, reading, problem solving, calculating operation of permutation and combination for the normal intelligencestudents through the relevant theories. At the same time, according to the request ofhigh school mathematics curriculum standard, this paper carefully read the emphasisand difficulty of this part based on the two basic counting principles. It can providesome theoretical guidance for high school mathematics teachers in the teaching ofpermutation and combination. Then this paper investigates the learning disabilities in permutation andcombination by the questionnaire survey. It is the focus of this paper to test the masterdegree of permutation and combination through the form of questionnaire, and determine the learning disabilities of permutation and combination. The authordevelops the questionnaire based on the knowledge of permutation and combinationand combined with the actual situation of students. Then the author chooses twoclasses of grade three as the respondents. After the test, the author organizes theresults of the test and analyzes the errors in the answer process. Based on theinvestigation and analysis, the author finds the learning disabilities in permutation andcombination mainly include the concept comprehension disabilities, readingcomprehension disabilities, problem solving methods disabilities and mathematicaloperation disabilities. And the concept comprehension disabilities include problems inmastering the addition counting principle and multiplication counting principle, confusion between arrangement with combination and confusion between groupingproblem with the assignment problem. After determining the learning disabilities in permutation and combination, combined with the theory of pedagogy, psychology and the mathematic learningpsychology, this paper analyzes the causes of various learning disabilities which paysfocus on personal factors of students. Finally, based on the results, combined with thecharacteristics of permutation and combination and teaching practice, this paper putforward four countermeasures to overcome the learning disabilities of arrangementand combination from two aspects of intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors:to deepen understanding of the concept, improve the cognitive level; pay attention tomethodology, summarizes the problem solving strategy; focus on thinking training, improve mathematical ability; cultivate interest in learning, improve the learninghabits.
