The Study Of Social Participation And The Related Factors Of The City Retired Elderly

With the growing aging society and the increasing elderly population, the population of retired senior citizens in the city also increases dramatically. City retired elderly people as a social group cannot be ignoredThe retired elderly often face adaptation problems,due to social professional roles, living environment, interpersonal relationship have changed. Can they adapt to retirement faster, adapt to the new social role quickly, re-integrate into urban society are about the retired elderly’s survival and development. Social participation is an important way to solve these problems which faced by the city Retirement elderly. Therefore, the study of City Retirement elderly community participation has important theoretical and practical significance.This study use activity theory and active aging theory, use qualitative research methods, interviewee15retired elderly from Q community in Jinan, Shandong Province. Investigate their personal, social participation conditions, and then analyze the factors that affect their social participation and analyze how the social participation affect the retired elderly.Through investigation, we found that the vast majority of China’s urban retirement elderly have more free time and good physical condition, and thus they have good conditions to take part in social activities. But condition of the social participation is not very optimistic. The arrangements of the elderly’s leisure time are still in the free use of state,they didn’t take part in social activity enthusiastically, and the level of participation is still relatively low. Studies have shown that social participation is an effective way to make the elderly adapt to the new living environment, but how to improve the social participation that need the governments, organizations and communities to take some measures. Government should develop appropriate systems and policies and increase capital investment. The society should break through the limitations of the traditional concept and emphasis on the value of the elderly. Community should improve the environment, promote community building for the elderly and provide a platform for the elderly to participate in social activities. The retired elderly should change their old ideas, understand the retirement correctly, establish a correct awareness of social participation, and make good use of their own conditions to participate in social activities. Finally, the professional social workers should assist the elderly to integrate their resources,carry out the corresponding activities combined with the elder’s needs.
