With the increasing trend of aging population,how to support the elderly has become a worldwide problem,causing widespread concern in the community.In 1982,"Active Aging" was proposed by the World Assembly on Aging,and adopted the "Vienna International Plan of Action on Aging";In 1991,the UN General Assembly proposed the "United Nations principles for the elderly",and put forward the participation of the elderly as one of the basic principles;In 1992,"Declaration on Aging" was published,urging States to take affirmative active on aging;In 2002,the“ Madrid International Plan on Aging” was adopted.It paid attention to the development of the elderly,with particular emphasis on the full participation of the elderly in the process of social development and share the fruits of development.In 1996,our country promulgated “Elderly Rights Law”,set up a chapter of "Elderly social participation",and the content was deepened and expanded after several amendments.Through years of research and development,the elderly social participation has been received increasing attentions,the importance of elderly social participation also has been reflected.Under this background,this paper studies the social participation of university retired teachers.The method of combining quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis has been used.This paper analyzes the contents and characteristics of the retired teachers’ social participation in the S University’s community in four aspects:talent training,scientific research,social service and cultural inheritance.It discusses individual and social factors that influence the social participation of university retired teachers,pointing out that there are some problems of social participation,such as single participation,inadequate platform,numerous obstacles etc.On the basis of consummating social participation mechanism to promote the countermeasures of the retired teachers participation,via the national policy support,community platform construction,resources support,family support and self concept of retired teachers’ change.These countermeasures provide some reference for the social participation of university retired teachers.
