Social Support Network Study Of Cancer Patients In The View Of Social Work

Nowadays, as a vulnerable group, cancer patients are entering the field of researcher’s vision. During the process of struggling with the disease, cancer patients suffer the pain of torture. In addition, they also have to face the economic, emotional, mental pressures. Those multiple pressures make the living conditions very difficult for this group. The previous studies mainly focus on descriptive studies carried out in medical field, psychology and sociology. But constructive and practical suggestions are rarely been proposed. In this way, studying the living conditions of this group and putting forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions has very important practical significances and theoretical values.This paper uses the perspective of the social work profession, and empirical research methods, choosing the X-Central Hospital as the study site. The author mainly uses semi-structured interviews and literature method to collect data. Through analysis of the data, mainly analyze the economic situation, service status, mental and emotional status and social interaction conditions of cancer patients,.And current social support networks for cancer patients have many problems, including lack of institutional safeguards, lack of professional support, unity and one-sidedness, lack of socialization and so on. So the existing social support network is far from sufficient to help cancer patients to deal with these multiple pressures.The imperfect aspects of social support networks ask for the involvement of professional social workers. Social work as an altruism-oriented service activity is aimed at helping those vulnerable groups through carrying out professional activities. They has the advantages of professional philosophy, professional theory, professional approach in the process of building a perfect and effective social support network system providing the possibility of interventions.In the level of proposing suggestions and countermeasures to construct the social support networks for cancer patient, this paper depicts a social support network mode for this group. On this basis, the author put forward specific suggestions, including: strengthen the system construction, promote structural reform; give full play to the role of community; promote doctor-patient communication, promote humane care; to perfect informal social support networks of cancer patients; mobilize social forces; carry out death education and so on.
