The consumption of the life etiquette in rural area has changed a lot since China’s reform and opening-up and with the increase of income of farmers. Especially in recent years, the rising tide of matrimonial consumption in rural area and high matrimonial consumption phenomenon arouse the increasing attention from the society.The thesis choose the author’s hometown as a case. Through field surveying and related theory research, we can find that along with the deepening of reform and open and the correct lead of the Party and government, farmer’s economic and living quality have got apparent progress. But at the same time, matrimonial consumption like betrothal gifts, marriage home,wedding banquet, etc. Is increasing. This phenomenon is ubiquitous in rural area. This high matrimonial consumption even become the living burden of some rural families and how to change this situation has been an burning issue. This research take the current social transformation in China as background. From the viewpoint of sociology and folklore, the thesis adopts various kinds of research methods to describe the status and historical changes of matrimonial consumption in W township. By comparing the matrimonial consumption and changes of different period in this area, analyze and explore the current situation and reason of high matrimonial consumption in rural areas, to try to find a resolution and help farmers free themselves from high matrimonial consumption.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction that mainly describes the research background, the purposes and significance, literature review together with the innovation and difficulties of the research. The second part is study design discusses theoretical supporting of this research, the research methods, core concept, where the study was conducted and the brief introduction of the research object. The third part is the summary about the structure and current situation of local matrimonial consumption. Part four mainly focus on the analysis of high matrimonial consumption in W Township meanwhile reveals the negative effects of high matrimonial consumption. Part five is the think on high matrimonial consumption.
