| The betrothal gift,as a folk custom,is deeply rooted in the Chinese traditional culture.However,as the society is transforming from a traditional type into a modernized one,the betrothal gift shows a trend to be extremely expensive.And nowadays,the surge in betrothal gift representing by the “sky-high betrothal gift” becomes a severe social problem in rural society.In Feb.2019,the NO.1 Central Document announced a regulation requirement to the high-betrothal-gift problem in the first time.On account of these facts,from a economic sociology perspective and incorporating the former research result,this article is seeking to probe into the high-betrothal-gift related problems in Chinese rural area.First,it shows the developing of betrothal gift by sorting out the payment method,basic function,negotiator and controller of the betrothal gift since the foundation of the PRC.Second,it analyzes the regional disparity,the basic function,and the relationship with the rural income of the betrothal gift using the special data from some provinces' countries along with related typical cases and practical investigation and research.Moreover,it digs deeply into the emergence of the high-betrothal-gift problem and believes that the development of the rural society's economy,the fluctuation of the rural marriage market,the traditional rural family structure,together with the dissimilation of the betrothal gift's nature boost the formation of the high-betrothal-gift problem.It steps further to elaborate on the negative influence the high-betrothal-gift would bring to the development of rural economy,social stabilization,and marital relationship.At last,it proposes measures including perfecting the social security system,correcting the childbearing concepts,improving laws and regulations,encouraging the involvement of social organization,and cultivating civilized rural culture to resolve the existing betrothal gift problem and promote the sound development of the new socialist countryside. |
