Research On Current Situation And Strategy Of Handicapped Track-and Field Athletics In Beijing

Currently,international handicapped athletics have developed rapidly;governments of all countries have paid more attention and made dramatically investment on handicapped activities.Meanwhile, handicapped athletics,as a part of human rights protective project, have been emphasized by all countries.This paper focus on the deep analysis of handicapped track-and-field athletics in Beijing.Since the Fourth National Handicapped Games 1996, handicapped track-and-field athletics have been put great emphasis. Beijing track and field team is in infancy stage.As time went by, handicapped track-and-field athletics have transformed from amateur stage to semi-professional stage.Many world records and games records have been broken during 2008 Beijing Paralympics Games.Some western counties declared that healthy people and disabled people use the same training ground,and handicapped track-and-field athletics should be professionalized completely.2007,Beijing handicapped track-and-field athletics ranked seventh based on overall performance.The achievement has been decreased incredibly compared to past performance.The decrease indicates handicapped athletics should be paid more attention by Beijing government. Accordingly,it is the top priority to keep in sync with the pulse of the present developing situation of handicapped track-and-field athletics and to find suitable developing path in Beijing.This thesis conducts investigation study in a sample of four coaches and 23 athletes.This paper uses literature method,expert interview method,questionnaire,mathematical statistics,logical deduction and comparative analysis.After the investigation and analysis,the following conclusion could be stated: 1 Integrative ranking of Beijing handicapped track-and-field athletics team has been decreased,but the ability to contend for golden medals has been increased.The quantity of handicapped activities is not enough.2 currently,Beijing handicapped track-and-field athletics team uses temporary centralized training instead of normal daily training.Coaches are able to multiple training methods for different stage.Athletes Selecting process is based on experiences of coaches instead of instruments.3 Handicapped track-and-field athletics develop healthily in Beijing. There are experienced coaches who positively influence daily training. The workload for coaches has been heavier due to the lack of quantity of coaches.The tendency of aging coaches is significant,reserve of talents for coaches are not enough.In terms of education background, most of coaches are college diploma holder.There is no on-the-job training for coaches.There is no competitive mechanism during the work for coaches.As a result,coaches working satisfaction are high. Suggestions:1 Government should increasing investment on handicapped track-and-field athletics,financing through multiple channels.For example,government may attract business sponsorship and sports lotteries earnings to getting involved.2 Government could give more publicity on handicapped track-and-field athletics,integrate relative institution,strengthen contact between Disabled Persons Federation and State Physical Cultural Administration, and improve disables sports games.3 Provincial disables sport teams should keep in touch with grass-root organs and enrich reserve disables athletes.
