Track and field sport (T&F) has always been regarded as the mother of sport. It represents the main skill of maintaining basic living abilities. We cannot live without the spirit of T&F—"higher, faster and stronger" no matter how the society changes. But in recent years, many PT outlines, standards and guidance have been issued, which motivated the innovation of PE classes in vocational colleges. Some "fashionable" sports enter PE class and become more and more popular among vocational college students. Subsequently, T&F is put on an embarrassed situation of being marginalized gradually. With the issue of "The National Physical Training Standard", we should restore the image of T&F and reverse the tendency of physical deterioration of the students.This thesis adapts the research method of literature, questionnaire survey, expert interviews, mathematical statistics, logical analysis, etc. The research object is the current teaching status of track and field course in vocational colleges. The negative factors which influenced the development of track and field course will be discussed. The result of this thesis is expected to provide effective measures to improve the sustainable development of track and field sports in vocational colleges.The research results indicates:1. Though tack and field sports are not set up as an elective course, they are contained in other PE courses, but basically have set up the track and field teaching while the ratio of lecturer and assistant is high. The number of teachers who have got master’s or doctor’s degree increased annually. Teachers are satisfied with the court and equipments.2. The track and field teaching at the Beijing vocational colleges is intended to promote the students’physical and mental health and social adaptability as well. The courses offered features standard program based on the teachers’preference or the ease of teaching. There is no innovative teaching content. The pedagogy is traditional as the summative assessment is the main type of evaluation.3.The students of Beijing vocational colleges are not interested in the track and field classes. The sports load of the classes is not enough. The students can not master the athletic skills. However, the students attribute the failure to reach the standard to the criteria of assessment.
