With the information technology developing, the microprocessor,the kernel of the embedded system,is widely used in many IT areas for its flexibility and powerful functions. It is also applied in the multimedia and digital signal processing of the home appliances,and satellite and missile guidance.Because Reduced Instruction Set Computer(RISC)can produce more efficient and denser machine code, the compiler can make better code whose density is more closed to the machine code,and thus the RISC is faster than the common Complex Instruction Set Computer(CISC). Moreover, the ratio of RISC’S performance to its cost is better than that of CISC. The advantages of having a clear architecture and functional view and an advanced process technology make RISC more and more attractive. This paper discussed the basic embedded microprocessor architecture and implemented the basic integer arithmetic and control unit witch support the SPRAC V8instruction set.The project implements the main part of microprocessor.integer arithmetic and control unit, which executes most integer arithmetic and control instructions. Integer computing ability is very important for microprocessor. The research for integer arithmetic and control unit is significant to the design of high performance processor.This unit supports SPRAC V8instruction set; five-stage pipeline; supports8register windows;configurable multiplier;base2not restore divider;with serial to floating-point processor unit and coprocessor.This paper analysis how to implement five-stage pipeline of this unit, and analysis hoe to design adder, multiplier, divider and integer control unit. We use VHDL to design integer arithmetic and control unit in RTL. After function simulation,we use XILINX company’s chip Virtex-5to FPGA verification. Frequencies of integer arithmetic and control unit up to184MHz,the result of verification show that the module module functionality and performance are designed in line with expectations.
