With the increasingly informationization and globalization of the economic environment inChina,"Silence is Gold” is no longer pursued as a golden rule. Companies hope theiremployees have the courage to "Voice", provide ideas for the development of enterprises.However, employee silence is a very common phenomenon in today’s society. Employeesshould express their views about the problem existed in the organization based on theirexperience, but as a variety of reasons, they choose to keep silence. Employee silence canhelp reduce the proliferation of management information and reduce interpersonal conflict.However, the negative impact of employee silence to businesses and individuals can not beignored. Employee silence can make employees feel neglected and cognitive disorders,while affecting business performance. Based on the negative affects of employee silence,scholars have launched a series of study about it. Traditional Chinese culture-Confucianculture, the relatively high power distance, collectivism concept, the impact of "mianzi" and" guanxi ", these elements are cultural roots of employee silence. At the same time, theseelements constitute the cultural roots of the typical leadership--Paternalistic Leadership.Based on common cultural roots, we choose the Non-state Enterprises as study object, toexplore the influence of paternalistic leadership on employee silence, and the moderatingrole of superior-subordinate guanxi. The researching results show paternalistic leadershiphas a significant impact on employee silence, the superior-subordinate guanxi plays amoderating role between authoritarian leadership and employee silence.
